Building Your First Gaming PC: A Beginner's Guide

Every part of a modern PC is designed to only fit one way — connectors are keyed, sockets are shaped for one orientation, and cables are labeled. You're far less likely to break something than you think.

Start with your motherboard out of the case, on top of its own box or an anti-static surface. Install the CPU first, then the RAM, then the M.2 SSD if your board has one — all three are much easier to handle before the board is mounted.

Mount the motherboard in the case, then install the power supply. Route your main cables (24-pin, CPU power) before you add the graphics card — you'll have far more room to work.

Install the CPU cooler, then the graphics card last. Connect your case fans, front panel connectors (power button, USB, audio), and double-check every power cable is fully seated — a half-connected cable is the most common reason a new build won't boot.

Before you close the case, power it on outside the case first (a 'breadboard test') to confirm everything boots. Once you see a display output, you're ready to install your OS and close things up.
